AN EVENING ABOUT THE IMPACT OF WAR ON A FAMILY
PRESENTED BY ÖZCAN AKYOL
LYNX Film and Cinema The Pulse bring veterans and refugees together
On Thursday, September 4th 2025, the premiere of FUGUE (30 min) by Joël Duinkerke took place at Cinema The Pulse, followed by a panel discussion about the psychological scars of war on veterans and refugees. The program uniquely bridged the experiences of these two groups.
To ensure a better life for their young son, a woman flees war with her veteran husband. During their flight, their son witnesses an event that will change their lives forever.
SPEAKERS
The film was introduced by General Paul Hoefsloot, director of the Veterans Institute, and Julia van de Graaff, screenwriter and producer of LYNX Film.
Following the film, there was a panel discussion with Lieutenant Colonel Marion Meesters and Abdulaal Hussein, a young Sudanese refugee known from the documentary Ask Me Anything. The discussion was moderated by Özcan Akyol, whose sharp and independent style underscores the social urgency of the topic.
LOCATION
Cinema The Pulse is Amsterdam's newest cinema, which opened in June 2025 in the Zuidas district. With nine screens, a luxurious foyer, and a high-quality restaurant and bar, The Pulse is designed as a meeting place for film, debate, and reflection: a perfect venue for an evening like this.

PRESS Reviews UNDER WATER
April 2023 - Rave reviews in Filmkrant, FilmVandaag, Volkskant and Telegraaf
On April 18, 19 and 20 the pre-premieres of UNDER WATER by Edgar Kapp and Kuba Szutkowski took place in Ketelhuis and Balie in Amsterdam and Lantaren/Venster Rotterdam. Since then we have received some wonderful reviews in the Filmkrant, on FilmVandaag and in De Volkskrant and Telegraaf. On the occasion of our premiere NRC wrote an extensive article about Nederhorror.
"It is a harrowing and sometimes eerie story, but Rotterdam directors Kuba Szutkowski and Edgar Kapp keep their feature debut light and accessible through their humane look and good dose of black humor.” ★★★ - Volkskrant
"The main characters are played by Julia van de Graaff, Elisa Beuger and Stijn Westenend. Van de Graaff impresses as the troubled Nel and her strong performance creates a lot of tension and chemistry between her and her fellow actors."... "UNDER WATER is rock solid. A refreshing addition to Dutch cinema." ★★★★ - FilmVandaag
"Convinced of their own truth and condemned to each other, this leads to increasingly strong confrontations in this claustrophobic tragicomedy. Stimulating dialogues and well-thought-out details are given a starring role." ★★★ (out of 4★) - Telegraaf
"Along the way the nice and compact 70 minutes of playing time of UNDER WATER the complex history of Nel and Foekje's family is explained (...) With each new piece of the puzzle, it becomes less clear who is actually right in the tug-of-war in the basement, where the three are condemned to each other after Nel locks things up.” - Filmkrant
UNDER WATER was shown in cinemas in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Alblasserdam, Nijmegen and Oostburg.
